Dec. 9: Linda Eder concert

Linda Eder, the songstress whose larger-than-life voice has been called “the human equivalent of a Stradivarius” (theatermania.com) returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall at 8 p.m. Dec. 9 with a concert of holiday songs and favorites from her CDs. Tickets are $40-$55 (with a limited number of “smart seats” at $10). Often compared to Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland, two of her musical influences, the Minnesota native first captured public attention with her unprecedented 12-week winning streak on the TV show Star Search.

Womens International Art Show

The grand opening of the Womens International Art Show will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Rudolph Alexander Gallery at 7630 Sawyer Circle on Gasparilla Road, Port Charlotte. The Womens International Art Show is highlighting four established female artists. • CindyLee is an award-winning internationally known artist creating exceptional work in the ancient techniques of Buon Fresco and traditional panel paintings. Influenced by the German and Italian artists of the 13th through 16th centuries, CindyLee paints with an Old World pallete in contemporary compositions. • Willie Marlowe is an abstract artist whose work is collected internationally. She credits her love of medieval illuminated manuscripts and Persian and Indian miniature paintings as the inspiration for her vibrant colors and small scale works. • Cathy Beausoleil is known for her watercolors and works in painting on silk. Inspired by the underwater world of the Florida coast, her paintings display a brilliant sense of color and fluidity. Cathy is well known in the Gulf Coast arts community and is an exciting addition to this show. • Ronda Jeffer will be showing mixed media work in her distinctive style that sometimes borders on the macabre. Jeffer's use of color and the intricate details hidden within her work are what make her a highly collected contemporary artist.
