September 2, 2010

Boca Grande has a finalist to root for in the second annual Englewood Idol competition.

Emily Stuckey, who works part-time for Ruhama's Books in the Sand Inc. in Boca Grande, made the top 10 and will compete for the $500 top prize at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lemon Bay High School Performing Art Center.

“This contest is kicking off the 2010/2011 school year in a big way,” said Director Jennifer Kelly of the Lemon Bay High School Theatre department. “These are the area's finest vocalists.”

Stuckey's talent had escaped the notice of her employer.

“I didn't realize she was a vocalist,” said Hollis DePaula, 20-year owner of Ruhama's Books. “She's a lovely girl.”

Kelly said special guest performances will also be made by last year’s Englewood Idol Top Five Finalists, including champion .

Stuckey survived auditions Aug. 24. Other finalists are Christine Rehl, Cole Mars, Alexandra Luke, Jaime Garza, Steve Carroll, Arlene Armenion, Connor Byrnes, Andi Abernethy and Yochanan Walker.
