Dear Editor,
The Board of Directors of Friends of Boca Grande Community Center joins with the entire Boca Grande community in mourning the untimely death of Lyman Randall. As a two-term member of our board, including two years of service as Board Chair, Lyman set a new course for this organization. He led the board in developing guidelines for selecting board members and in providing orientation focusing on the governance responsibilities of boards. He wrote a detailed history of the Friends, and created our Vision statement: Our Community Center where Boca Grande Comes Together. His leadership led to the first of the now annual board retreats at which directors examine the organization and plan for its future.
A strong advocate for the public-private partnership between Friends and Lee County, Lyman worked diligently to clarify the respective roles of each. He supported the formulation of thoughtful policies to guide the work of board and staff, and devoted countless hours to posing and resolving questions.
I know that I speak for all board members, present and past, who were privileged to call Lyman colleague and friend, in saying that his wise counsel, good humor, and graceful language will be sorely missed. To his family we offer our deep sympathy and our thanks for sharing him with us during his Boca Grande years.
Sincerely,
Patricia Chapman, Chair
Board of Directors, Friends of Boca Grande Community Center
