The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office today reported thieves are targeting and stealing pairs of jet skis on dual trailers. Three such incidents have been reported recently, according to Detective Richard Nix. "Thieves are backing up to trailers containing a pair of jet skis, hooking on, and simply driving away," Nix said. He is asking those who own these type vehicles to, "Please take extra precaution in securing your jet skis and trailers." Only one of the three trailers had a trailer lock, but that was cut off and the trailer stolen. The following is a list of recent thefts: -July 14: Stolen from a Harbour Heights home, a 2002 dual Jet Ski trailer, Florida tag L696GY, with a 2005 Kawasaki JT-12 and a 1998 Yamaha Jet Ski. -July 22: Stolen from a Harbour Heights home, a 2001 dual Jet Ski trailer, Florida tag E529BA, with a 2001 Sea-Doo Jet Ski and a 2001 Sea-Doo Jet Ski. -July 28: Reported stolen from a home in the 19500 block of Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte, a trailer with neon green Kawasaki 500 Jet Ski and a Neon Green Kawasaki 550 Jet Ski. Anyone with information about thefts of these three trailers and six Jet Skis is asked to call Detective Nix at 941-575-5374 or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477). |
