Representatives of the Florida Superior Small Lodging Association recently announced that 22 Lee County hoteliers have successfully qualified for the SSL designation. Among them are the Bokeelia Tarpon Inn in Bokeelia, Two Fish Inn in St. James City and Matlacha Island Cottages in Matlacha. Eligibility for participation in the Lee County SSL program is restricted to hotels, motels and inns with 50 rooms or less, and each must hold a valid hotel, motel, inn or bed and breakfast license. The inspection and designation are designed to provide travelers with lodgings that are easily identified as having accommodations that are clean, safe and well maintained and offer a friendly atmosphere and personal service. All inspections are done unannounced and can be repeated periodically and randomly to ensure that the SSL program standards are being met. Inspected are the registration and public areas, guest accommodations, bathrooms, bathroom supplies, kitchens and the exterior of the property. Only those scoring 82 percent or higher are bestowed with the SSL designation. In addition to the SSL designation, the Bokeelia Tarpon Inn also was awarded the White Glove Award. The award is presented to only those establishments that were inspected by the Property Review Program and is given for the best practices in housekeeping. To qualify the property must score 100 percent for all the components of the housekeeping inspection. The Bokeelia Tarpon Inn was one of the 11 lodges to receive the White Glove Award out of the 22 SSL designated properties in Lee County.
