PLACIDA - Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Placida man Sunday after being led on a car chase that left two officers injured following a crash at Rotonda Circle and Cape Haze Drive. Brandon Wesley Flynn, 28, of Seaward Circle in Placida, allegedly made two escape attempts before being charged with nine counts, including two counts of escape, three counts of DUI with property damage, two counts of criminal mischief and one count each for DUI and threat against a public servant. A man reported his car was sideswiped at 9:10 p.m. by an oncoming car on Rotonda Circle that also hit two mailboxes. The caller followed the vehicle and reported the car crashed deep into a wooded area, a man got out and ran. Deputies located Flynn, 28, handcuffed him behind his back and put him into a patrol car. Flynn reportedly became verbally hostile and threatened the deputy and his family saying he would, "find us and kill us." En route to the County Jail, Flynn allegedly kicked out a rear window of the patrol car at U.S. 41 and State Road 776 in Murdock while stopped at a red light and climbed out. The deputy radioed for assistance, gave chase, sprained his ankle and fell down. The deputy did manage to use his baton twice on Flynn, still in handcuffs. Flynn ran up to a car in the next lane and asked the driver for a ride. The driver refused and Flynn ran off toward U.S. 41. The driver aided the injured deputy and then chased Flynn and secured him until deputies arrived. While in the back of the second patrol car, Flynn kicked out another window and deputies stunned him to calm him down. The deputy was treated at a hospital emergency room for his ankle injury and remains on light duty. A jail transport van took Flynn to the Charlotte County Jail where two breath tests came to .187, more than twice the legal limit. Flynn posted an $18,750 bond and was released. |
