The annual Boca Grande Annual "Lighted or Not Christmas Boat Parade" has been moved up a day. The parade will launch at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, instead of Dec. 8 as originally planned. The Boca Grande Pass Yacht Club and the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce have opened the parade to all local boaters. Lynda Lancaster, executive director of the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce, said the parade has become a growing island tradition. "Dress up your boat and crew in a holiday theme," she said. "Dazzle the crowds with your island spirit and creativity." The parade assembles in the canal betweenn Lafitte and Jose Gaspar Drive in Boca Grande Isles and will proceed past the Inlet, Pink Elephant docks, Boca Grande Marina and Whiddens with the final turnabout in the Damificare Canal. Boats must be a minimum of 15 feet and fit under the Gasparilla Inn Golf Course bridge. Decoration is required. Illumination is strongly encouraged. The awards ceremony for participating captains and crews only will be held at Miller's Dockside following the parade. Prizes will be awarded in many categories. The parade is open to all island boaters but registration is required. Forms are available at the The Boca Grande Chamber and www.bocagrandechamber.com, the Boca Grande Community Center or call Barbara Jenkins at 964-1017 |
