A patchy bloom of Karenia brevis alongshore Sarasota County and inside the Sarasota Bay System has now been detected alongshore Charlotte County, inside Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound and offshore northern Lee County.

Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was not detected in water samples collected this week alongshore of Pinellas, Manatee and Collier counties.

Samples collected alongshore of Charlotte County and inside Charlotte Harbor contained very low concentrations of K. brevis. Samples collected at Boca Grande Pass and inside of Gasparilla Sound also contained low concentrations of K. brevis. Samples collected offshore of Cayo Costa contained very low concentrations of K. brevis.
