Red tide presence wanes in Boca Pass
Staff report
POSTED: December 29, 2009
The red tide appears to have ebbed out of Boca Grande's Gulf waters after making an appearance last week.
Samples collected alongshore Boca Grande Pass, Captiva Pass, Redfish Pass and inshore Pine Island Sound of Lee County contained patchy concentrations ranging from not present to low.
Karenia brevis was not detected in water samples collected alongshore of Pinellas, Manatee and Collier counties or offshore of Lee County.
Five samples collected alongshore Sarasota County out of 21 contained concentrations of K. brevis ranging from present to very low.
Sampling will continue this week with results available in the next scheduled Red Tide status report Dec. 31.
