Funding shown by the giant thermometer at the building site for the new Englewood-Cape Haze Area Chamber of Commerce Visitors and Community Conference Center, 601 South Indiana Ave., went up by $50,000 July 8 after a donation by the Englewood Community Redevelopment Authority. The contribution was recommended by the CRA Advisory Board and approved by the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners. "This will give us a window of opportunity to make a final push for fundraising to reach the Chamber's goal of $525,000. To date, $415,000 has been raised over the years," said John Mead, chairman of the Building Fund Capital Campaign. "Literally hundreds of people and companies have contributed to this project over many years," said Chamber Executive Director Jon Bednerik. "Contributions have ranged from $25,000 in cash and up to $48,000 as an in-kind contribution, down to $10 and $20, as well as the $100 voluntary contribution many Chamber members added to their annual dues in some years past." The Visitors Center expects to see 8,000-plus people every year. |
