Dougald Walter Gilchrist, 82

Lt. Col. Dougald Walter Gilchrist, U.S. Air Force retired, 82, of Venice, and formerly of Port Charlotte, died Friday, June 10.

Gilchrist was born May 1, 1929, in Kalispell, Mont., to Dougald A. and Nancy (Jaquette) Gilchrist. He retired from the U.S. Air Force having completed 102 combat missions in Vietnam. He received the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Force Air Medal with First and Second Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was a member of the South Gulf Cove Yacht Club, Englewood Masonic Lodge, Maple Shade Masonic Lodge in Moorestown, N.J., and American Legion Post No. 113.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Glenda Keiper and husband Roy, Patricia Gilchrist, Kristi Gilchrist and Katheryn Cote; sister, Nancy Hendrickson; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church of Gulf Cove with luncheon to follow. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sarasota National Cemetery.
