Florida boating fatalities stand at 37

September 1, 2011
Gasparilla Gazette

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission urges boaters to have fun by boating safely over the busy holiday weekend.

There have been 37 boating accident fatalities in Florida year-to-date. Though fewer lives have been lost this year as compared to this time last year, safe boat operation is always important. There have been several boating fatalities in the past few weeks.

The FWC also encourages boaters to remain sober or designate a sober boat operator. Also, boaters should pay attention to their surroundings, particularly inclement weather that can build quickly this time of year.

For information on boating safety, call the FWC Boating and Waterways Section at (850) 488-5600 or go to MyFWC.com/Boating.
