September 13, 2011
Gasparilla Gazette

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Agriculture Detective is asking the public for any information about an intentional fish kill at a fish farm, 32151 Oil Well Road, in the southern part of the county. The kill means a $25,000 loss to the owner.

The manager called CCSO Saturday to report six of his fish farm tanks were full of dead tilapia. Ag Detective Justin Treworgy reported vandals entered the property on foot and removed two aerator hoses from the piping system causing six of the 12 tanks to fail. The fish all suffocated and died. A total of 10,000 pounds of fish were lost.

Anyone with information about this intentional fish kill is asked to call (941) 639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
