Classical guitarist Peter Simms will provide the entertainment for the annual Lighting of the Lighthouse at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. Complimentary appetizers, wine, punch and cookies underwritten by first-year sponsor Merrill Lynch. "It promises to be a great evening," said Sharon McKenzie, executive director of the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse and Museum.
Simms, a 30-year veteran professional musician, studied classical and jazz music at Cabrillo College and Chabot College in California. He also studied privately with jazz greats: Don Haas (Benny Goodman), Smith Dobson (Gary Burton), Dave Smith (Joe Pass) and Ray Brown (Stan Kenton).
He has performed at Gasparilla Inn & Club in Boca Grande), Ritz Carlton in Naples and Sarasota, Longboat Key Club, Hyatt Regency, Ringling Museum/Cad'Zan, Crosely Mansion, The Colony, The Founders Club, The Oaks, Selby Gardens, The Lido Resort, The Venetian Club, Harbourside, Useppa Island, Pine Island, North Captiva Island Resort, Longboat Grille, Caf L' Europe and Sarasota Arts Center.
