To the Editor:
The May 5 Cayo Costa Heritage Day is the first signature event for the newly organized Friends of Cayo Costa State Park group, a division of Barrier Island Parks Society.
We are also promoting membership for our new organization.
We are still working on plans but many awesome activities have been planned. We are so fortunate to have a number of charter boat operators donating their time and tour boats to transport guests over and back from Gasparilla Island.
The great part is the price, only a $20 donation for the trip over to the island and back, plus lunch and all the fun, too.
Representatives from the pioneer fishing families will be on hand for great storytelling, memorabilia and more. Nature and beach walks are planned and much more.
The event is dedicated to our founder, the late Sally Tapager. We miss her so much.
We need your help to sell out the 200-plus seats we have.
