Tropical Storm Debby sideswiped Southwest Florida as she meandered into a spinning rotation off the Panhandle dumping as much as 2 feet of rain in some areas during a weeklong assault.
Monday brought the worst of it to Gasparilla Island and surrounding areas with the bulk of rain falling, trees and limbs blown down and many roads submerged in a 24-hour period.
Boca Grande Fire Chief C.W. Blosser said the island came through relatively unscathed with just a few downed power lines, which were quickly repaired.

Coastal erosion has erased beaches back to the seawall in many paces on Gasparilla Island.
" So far we're good," Blosser said as the sun emerged in clearing skis Tuesday. "We haven't had anything storm-related other than downed power lines. As far as I know, everybody's power is back on."
Coastal erosion is likely the worst of the damage to Gasparilla Island.
"It's back to the seawall in a lot of places," Blosser said. "We're losing the beach."
