Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested two boys allegedly involved in stealing a kayak, items from a boat, and attempting to steal a motorboat Wednesday.
Anthony Vincent Maurer, 12, 9417 Carnation Ave., Englewood East, and Jesse Ray Solomon, 13, 2042 Willow Ave., Grove City, were charged with burglary, grand theft and petty theft. Maurer was charged with vehicle grand theft. The two boys were released to their parentsgacing juvenile court action.
Maurer reportedly met Solomon at Ainger Creek Marina, 2002 Placida Road, and stole a cast net and a pair of binoculars from a boat. They later allegedly stole a $1,200 orange kayak from 1026 Lee St. and paddled it to 2061 South Pine St. where Maurer tried to start the motor on a $5,000 motorboat but was confronted by the owner. Maurer fled by swimming across a canal but was taken into custody by a deputy.

Deputies located Solomon at his home. The two boys were arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
