Charlotte Sheriff's HR director forced to resign

22-year career ruined by records snafu

July 13, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Human Resources Director Emma Dennison has resigned after an internal investigation into policy violations.

The resignation was effective July 10 with final paperwork completed Thursday. Dennison was human resources director at the Sheriff's Office for 22 years beginning in 1990.

The investigation stemmed from internal allegations that Dennison attempted to destroy an employee application file from Paul Dickson her son. Dennison authorized the file to be placed into a designated destruction bin, however, the file was recovered before being destroyed. Her son was not hired.

The investigation concluded Dennison's actions constituted conduct unbecoming and would be a crime if the records had been destroyed.

Capt. Donna Roguska received a letter of reprimand in the incident. Roguska, commander of professional standards and training, knew about what occurred. The investigation concluded Roguska should have questioned the actions and intervened.
