Boca Grande property values increased a little more than 1 percent in 2011, according to preliminary estimates released by the Lee County Appraiser's Office.
Boca Grande property values reached nearly a cumulative $1.5 billion after the $15.9 million increase in 2011. Adding the $435,472,597 taxable value from the Gasparilla Island properties in Charlotte County brings the total taxable value of Boca Grande property owners to a little more than $1.9 billion.
The gain is no small achievement as Lee County staggers out of the Great Recession.

Only three of 17 independent fire districts in Lee County matched or bettered Boca Grande's property value increase in 2011. Twelve of the Lee County independents continued to hemorrhage valuation dollars with the $177-million decline in Bonita Springs the heftiest dollar loss.
