The inaugural Hammerhead Adventure Race on Gasparilla Island was a success Saturday, according to organizers at the Boca Grande Fire Department.
Luke Berry, 20, of Englewood outdistanced the field by turning in a sparkling time of 30 minutes, three seconds.
Jeanne Hertel, 42, of Fort Myers finished first among all females and seventh overall in a time of 32.10.

Boca Grande was represented by 67-year-old Peter Roberts, who finished No. 39 in a time of 42.02, and Linda Roberts, 65, who came in No. 90 in a time of one hour and three minutes.
Fifteen-year-old Brennan McGill of Port Charlotte finished eighth overall and first among all teens in a time of 32.40.
Participants ranged in ages from 13 to 71. fThe oldest competitor - 71-year-old Frank Nicolosi of Port Charlotte - finished No. 19 in a time of 37.03.
Thirteen-year-old Robbie Cerami of Port Charlotte finished No. 22 in a time of 37.32 as the youngest competitor.
Runner tests included a hydrant hose down, an ice-cold mystery obstacle, tire field, wall of brick, long crawl, torture beach, sandbag drag and shark tunnel.
Lt. Pete Kirvin said the race raised $4,000 for the Boca Grande Firefighters Association.
He said running the first obstacle race on Gasparilla Island could not have been done without contributing sponsors and volunteers.
"Absolutely, this first year was a success," Kirvin said. "Everybody seemed to have fun and no one was injured."
It also attracted more than 100 people to the island on what is typically a much slower day benefitting retailers and restaurateurs.
Running the event prevented BGFD personnel from participating but 102 competitors took part in the 3.5-mile race over a course loaded with obstacles.
