Murder suspect Billy Ray Retherford, 42, was shot to death just after midnight Wednesday by Lee County Sheriff's deputies assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Police responded to the 1200 block of Laurel Drive in North Fort Myers on a tip as to Retherford's location.
Shots were fired by police and Rutherford.
Rutherford died at the scene. No Task Force members were injured.
Retherford has been wanted by police since the July 24 murder of Debra Striano in the Three Oaks Community of South Fort Myers.
Suspected accomplice, Dustin Jaye, 23, was arrested July 31 for his role in the murder.
Hours before locating Retherford, the Lee County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene of another homicide in North Fort Myers. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating this as a possible related case.
