Englewood pioneer descendant passes at 87

Katherine Anderson Parks, 87, passed away Aug. 8.

A descendant of two pioneer families, the Andersons and Davis', and daughter of Desmond Anderson and Mary Lee Davis, she was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Englewood.?

A 1943 graduate of Venice High School, she worked at the Venice Airbase and met her future husband, Master Sgt. Pete Parks, at a beach pavilion dance.?

During her lifetime, she worked for Dr. Smith, Beall's Deptartment Store and Philman Construction as a clerk and secretary.?

She was predeceased by her husband; son, Chip Parks; brother, Marvin; and sister. Eleanor.

Survivors include son, Richard Dickie Parks; daughter, Janice Parks Alston; grandchildren, Stacey Parks, Lisa Parks Boyden, Casey, Dennis, Toby Parks and Lauren Alston, all of Englewood and Sarasota; great grandchildren, Danielle, Cierra, Makenzie, Emily, Ronin, and Anne Parks; beloved cousins, Floyd, Bill, Ferold Davis, Dale and Ellen Galvin; and Geri Roeber.

Visitation was 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday with services at 10: 30 a.m. Monday at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood. Interment will be at Gulf Pines Memorial Park. Please wear your favorite colors as we celebrate Katherine's life.
