Island shutterbug season opens Nov. 13

The "Photography as Art" show at the Boca Grande Art Alliance, 236 Banyan St., will highlight the third season for the Boca Grande Camera Club.

A 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 reception will open the "Photography as Art" show, which will be on display from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26-27.

Organizer Bob Elliott of the Boca Grande Camera Club also announced other set programs for the new season running from November through April 2013.

The season opens with a professional demonstration from noted website designer and computer specialist Bobbi Marquis giving tips on using the computer to organize, edit and send photos. "Your Photos and Your Computer" will be held Nov. 13.

Unless noted, all BGCC meetings are at 11 a.m. in the Woman's Club Room at the Boca Grande Community Center.

The second session, "What I Did Last Summer," is a Dec. 11 presentation by club members showing their off-season photography, including trips to Alaska, Maine landscapes and Indiana deer.

January will be the busiest month for the club with a Jan. 8 special gathering on architectural photography led by international architectural expert Jim Chamberlain, who will speak before taking members to a photo shoot at the Gasparilla Inn & Club followed by Chamberlain's review of the photos shot by members.

The Jan. 22 "The Birds and the Bees, and, Oh, the Fish" meeting will feature a trio of wildlife photographers giving tips on shooting all forms of birds, creatures and fish.

Additional meetings will be at Feb. 5 and 19, March 5 and 19 and April 2 and 16.

The Boca Grande Camera Club is open to all people in Boca Grande and close by. For information call Elliott at 964-7492.
