Pirate Fest promoters SIK Promotions Inc. and Pirates of the Treasure Coast report today The Pirate Fest in Fort Myers was postponed due to lack of support.
"We were faced with a decision; proceed with inadequate funds and produce a minimal event, (not to mention covering overage expenses out of our own pockets), or a postponement, so that we could try once again to rally the townsfolk to reconsider and contribute their fair share," read a promoter's press release. "We believe it would have been wrong to use vendor money as the sole source to finance a pirate fest and chose to postpone it."
Promoters say the event's website has been altered making it appear as if the pirate fest will take place with the same professional quality and entertainment.
"A demand to remove the misleading content from the event's website has gone ignored," promoters said.
"Our fear is that people will travel to this town looking for a first-rate pirate festival and be disappointed at what they find. Ironically, this is why we postponed it in the first place."
A pirate fest is still set for Fort Myers Beach on Columbus Day Weekend.
