The neighbor called the inmate's son who lives a few houses away. The son confronted Costa, who reportedly said he was collecting belongings as he used to live there. The son said that was not true.
The man then said the mother owes him $800 and gave him permission to pawn items to bond her out of jail. Costa then got into a red car and drove off toward Englewood.
Deputies contacted the 41-year-old mother at the jail and she said she did not give anyone permission to enter or remove anything. She said Donald Costa never lived there. The woman was arrested Sep. 28 for Burglary, Grand Theft and Violation of Probation and remains in jail on no bond.
At 7:30 p.m. CCSO received a call from Port Charlotte Town Center Mall wanting a man trespassed due to bizarre behavior. When a deputy responded he arrested Costa and a search of his car reportedly turned up a pill bottle with 31 Buprenorphine pills, a schedule-3 narcotic with no prescription.
