Job openings up sharply in Florida

October 17, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

The number of available online job openings in Florida increased 15.1 percent in September compared with September 2011.

Jobs are up by 35,277 for a total of 268,575 openings (seasonally adjusted). Additionally, the number of September job postings increased more than 4,300 over August 2012.

"This increase shows that more employers are seeing positive improvements in their business, are eager to expand, and need the skilled and talented work force that Florida can provide them," said Gov. Rick Scott in a press release.

According to the Help Wanted OnLine data series from The Conference Board, online job demand was strongest in Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville. But the highest percentage gain over-the-year in online ads was in Ft. Myers and Lakeland (each plus-9 percent) followed by Ocala (plus-6.7 percent).

Occupations with the most online ads included sales and related occupations; health care practitioners and technical occupations; office and administrative support occupations; and computer and mathematical occupations.
