Swing Bridge bids range from $18M to $24M

Five bids were opened Wednesday by Gasparilla Island Bridge authority ranging from $17.9 million to $24.2 million.

The Swing Bridge construction bids received in order of lowest to highest:

Bid totals do not include the required $2 million contingency fund.

Bids are being reviewed by the GIBA Selection Committee and will be discussed in detail at the Friday, Nov. 2 board meeting.

Two bids were received for construction engineering and inspection Services from Aim Engineering and Surveying and KCCS Inc.

GIBA also reported Wednesday on Day 241 of the 637-day project that Orion Marine Construction crews remain on target and the tri-bridge project is now 36 percent complete.

The finish date for the new South Bridge remains March 2013, completion for the 800-foot-long Center Bridge remains December 2013 and the Swing Bridge should be done by January 2016.

The north end roadway of the South Bridge should be done by Nov. 1. Orion's road crews will then begin work on the mechanically stabilized earth concrete wall on the south side.

South Bridge progress notes

Final of five piling pier caps to be installed this week.

Deck slabs to be set in November along with underwater "marine mattress" shore protection.

Center Bridge progress notes

Last of five caps to done. Caps rest on columns to provide structural support for four beams that support the Center Bridge deck. Each Center Bridge cap is custom designed. Caps are 37 feet long, 6 feet tall and 5 feet deep.

Final height above water equals 26 feet.

All Center Bridge primary structural support areas - footings, columns, and caps - will be complete by Oct. 31.

All sub-structure complete: concrete pilings (land and water) for both bridges all now fully set.
