Friday DUI check nets 6 in Lee County

A DUI sobriety checkpoint begun at 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at 4871 Cleveland Ave. (U.S. 41) in Fort Myers ended at 2:30 a.m. Saturday after six DUI arrests were made out of 672 vehicles stopped. A total of 53 citations were issued with four for no driver's licenses and two driving while license was suspended.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported 521 alcohol-related crashes in Lee County resulting in 20 fatalities and 368 injuries in 2010.
